MLB DFS MAINSLATE BREAKDOWN WEDNESDAY 7/6/2022

These past couple of slates have really seen a lot of weather concerns and tonight is no different.  With an 8-game slate ahead of us tonight, there are a lot of variables to navigate, so let's not waste much time.

Weather - Games you want to be aware of tonight include Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Atlanta.  All show varying degrees of concern, so make sure to pay attention.

Keep in mind, these articles and any associated videos are published early, so that you have a chance to review and set lineups.  Actual lineups likely are not out yet, so please please make sure you check lineups before lock.  Also, please ensure you check weather and potential delays.

PITCHERS

  • Cristian Javier - $9,300 - vs. KC - 8 O/U

    • Weather is not a concern here with Javier since he will be pitching at home and indoors. He is coming off of 2 great starts, posting 45+ FPs in each of his last 2 starts to go along with 27 total strikeouts. Not all of his games have lived up to these numbers this season but he has shown incredible upside at times this season. Tonight he gets a very friendly matchup against the Royals who rank 23rd in wRC+, 23rd in wOBA and 27th in ISO. All numbers suggesting they are a pretty below average to bottom of baseball offense. With only 3.91 runs projected to be scored by the Royals tonight and a strikeout O/U of 7 tonight, Javier is one of the better options available.

BATTERS

  • Mookie Betts - $4,500 - vs. COL - vs. Urena (R - COL)

    • If $4,400 was too cheap last night, well $4,500 is going to be much the same. We played Betts last night and he delivered with a solo HR and should be looking to go right back to him tonight in arguably a better spot against Urena. Urena has yet to pitch more than 3 innings in a game this season, is considered a long reliever and thus should lead to a bullpen game for the Rockies. But again, I don't want to complicate this, Bett's salary is just too much of a value regardless of who he is facing.
  • Jarren Duran - $4,600 - vs. TB - vs. Kluber (R - TB)

    • Kluber is washed, don't argue with me. I'm very interested in Boston bats tonight and that means someone like Duran, who is on the cheaper side of salary for the Red Sox lineup and who should continue to lead off in a split advantage matchup, is on my radar. Kluber this season as a whole has not been great and oddly has been worse against right handed bats, but for his career has some pretty weak metrics when facing a left handed bat. That puts Duran in a prime position tonight, if he is leading off for the Red Sox. Keep an eye on that lineup and if Duran is in fact leading off, I will be trying to fit him into lineups.

STACKS

  • Boston Red Sox - 4.68 - vs. Kluber (R - TB)

    • If you couldn't tell by my Duran write-up above, I'm willing to take my chances on most Red Sox bats tonight. That, in turn, means I like the full blown stack against Kluber. Kluber just simply isn't good in my opinion and although he seemingly has been serviceable for the Rays, I am just waiting for games where he implodes. He hasn't been able to make it through a season since 2018 and over the last couple of years has seen his strikeout metrics drop (21.3% this season) while his hard hit % (36.2% this season), fly ball % (42.1% this season) and HR/9 (1.07) metrics all increase. In his last start against the Blue Jays, a very good offense, he was knocked out of the game after 3 innings and 5 earned runs. I just think good offenses will be able to take advantage of an aging Kluber and with Boston having played much better baseball over the last month, I am willing to take my chances with their stack at home.
