MLB DFS MAINSLATE BREAKDOWN THURSDAY 7/7/2022

There is a solid 10-game main slate on tap for tonight but similar to the last couple of nights, there are still some weather concerns.  With a couple aces on the mound and a few games sitting at a 9.5 O/U, tonight is shaping up to be a great DFS slate.

Weather - Games you want to be aware of tonight include Baltimore, Cincinnati and Chicago.

Keep in mind, these articles and any associated videos are published early, so that you have a chance to review and set lineups.  Actual lineups likely are not out yet, so please please make sure you check lineups before lock.  Also, please ensure you check weather and potential delays.

PITCHERS

  • Dylan Cease - $9,800 - vs. DET - 8 O/U

    • Dylan Cease is the easy pick tonight for top pitcher, as not only has he been great this season, but he is in an ideal home matchup against a poor Tigers offense. Cease offers double digit strikeout potential (34.3% K% - 2022) and in 2 starts this season against the Tigers, he has put up 26 or more fantasy points in each. Last season was even more impressive, with Cease averaging nearly 33 FP, 6+ innings and 8+ Ks per start. So the history between Cease and the Tigers seriously is in favor of Cease. The Tigers on the other hand this season stink offensively. Against right handed pitching, they rank 29th (wRC+), 29th (wOBA) and 30th (ISO). They also strikeout the 7th most in MLB, as if you needed anything else.

BATTERS

  • Ronald Acuna Jr. - $5,900 - vs. STL - vs. Liberatore (L - STL)

    • Acuna Jr. comes in as the highest raw projected bat tonight on Daily Fantasy Nerd. He is plus split matchup against the lefty Liberatore and for the season has been pretty awesome when facing a left hander. Against left handed pitching, for the season, Acuna Jr. has a 160 wRC+ and.405 wOBA. His .250 ISO is nearly double his power against right handers (.130). Liberatore is coming off a start where he gave up 5 runs in just 2.2 innings against the Phillies. In a limited sample this season, he has struggled bad against right handed bats, showing he has allowed a .421 wOBA with a low 14.9% K% and high 2.25 HR/9 rate. Needless to say, this is the matchup you want for Acuna Jr.

STACKS

  • Arizona Diamondbacks - 4.67 - vs. Gomber (L - COL)

    • This is a bit of an odd recommendation, but I stand behind my pick in the Diamondbacks tonight. There are a bunch of good bats available tonight across the board and as indicated, I am interested in some higher salaried pitchers. That means we have to find salary savings somewhere and I think an Arizona stack gives us those savings coupled with good play overall. For the season, there are no metrics I can present that won't showcase them as a bottom 5 offense against southpaws but if you focus over the last 30 days, they have actually improved (109 v 85 wRC+). I'm not saying they are an elite offense as of late. That is hardly the truth. But they are cheap, have improved and are in a great matchup against a bad left handed pitcher in Gomber. Gomber has been atrocious this season, even when you isolate his starts outside of Coors. In away starts, Gomber actually has a worse xFIP (4.30 v 4.20). He has a 20% K%, walks almost 8% of batters faced and gives up 1.07 HR/9. The numbers just aren't good for Gomber, so I am looking to take stack up some the Diamondbacks better bats, including Marte and Walker. Plus, it should be over 100 degrees in Arizona tonight, which likely means the roof will be closed, but occasionally they open it and it leads to some major bat benefiting park factors.
  • Atlanta Braves

  • Boston Red Sox
