A nice 9-game slate is on tap for tonight which includes some action in Colorado.  I would say at first glance what tonight lacks in pitching is made for in bats, particularly those playing in the Dodgers Rockies game.   But let's break it down and see who the best options are.

Weather - There are a few spots to keep an eye on tonight, including Washington, New York and Colorado.  New York looks like the worst spot weather wise by a good margin, but make sure to keep up to date on the others.

Keep in mind, these articles and any associated videos are published early, so that you have a chance to review and set lineups.  Actual lineups likely are not out yet, so please please make sure you check lineups before lock.  Also, please ensure you check weather and potential delays.

PITCHERS

  • Jordan Montgomery - $8,000 - vs. OAK - 8.5 O/U

    • Tonight is tough in terms of starting pitching and the guy I like the most, Montgomery, is in a bad weather spot. But he is worth mentioning so long as you promise to stay current on the weather situation. Montgomery is a clear good play tonight outside of weather, however. The A's offense is horrible this year, and against left handed pitching are ranked 26th in wRC+, 28th in wOBA and 26th in ISO. They are projected to score only 3.18 runs (the lowest on the slate) and Montgomery has an O/U of 5.5 on strikeouts. He has pitched fairly well this season but in reality, at just $8,000, on a slate with very few pitching options, against one of the worst offenses in baseball, Montgomery is just an all around good play.

BATTERS

  • Freddie Freeman - $5,800 - @ COL - @ Kuhl (R - COL)

    • Coming off a very emotional series in Atlanta, Freeman gets an ideal spot tonight at Coors Field. Not only is Freeman in a split advtange (L v R) in the most hitter friendly parks in baseball, but he also gets Chad Kuhl. Kuhl has a career 1.47 HR/9 line against left handers - keep in mind most of those innings came in the pitcher friendly PNC Park. This season he sports a 5.16 xFIP and .344 wOBA against left handers. If you isolate that to just home starts, the numbers balloon even more. It isn't a great spot for Kuhl but is a great spot for Freeman who has a 149 wRC+ against right handed pitching this season.
  • Michael Chavis - $2,100 - @ WAS - @ Fedde - (R - WAS)

    • The Pirates continue to offer pretty exceptional value in their lineup that certainly helps when you might be interested in stacking the Dodgers in Colorado. Chavis is the guy I want to point out for tonights slate, as he sits at near minimum salary. He has been hitting 3rd in the lineup the past 3 games andp prior to that 4th or 5th. So you are effectively getting a bare minimum player hitting in the middle of a lineup against a pretty weak team in Washington and pitcher in Fedde. I'm not saying stack the Pirates, but you can do worse than taking a value shot on Chavis tonight.

STACKS

  • LA Dodgers - 6.64 Earned Runs - @ Kuhl (R - COL)

    • The Dodgers are projected to score a full run more than the 2nd highest team on tonight's slate, so I would say you are either going full go with a Dodgers stack or completely fading them. It's going to be awfully hard to do the later considering the likes of Freeman, Turner, Turner, Smith, Muncy, Bellinger and company are in an ideal spot in Coors against Chad Kuhl. Kuhl's numbers are not very good generally speaking and get even worst at home for the Rockies. Not much more justification is needed - this is a loaded lineup that can do crazy things any given night against any opponent - throw in a game against a bad pitcher in baseballs best hitting park and runs should be scored in bunches.
