Welcome to some Wednesday night baseball.  Tonight's main slate  tonight lists out 9 total games to pick from and at first glance there is a good mix of quality pitchers and high scoring games.

Weather - There are a few spots to keep an eye on tonight, including Baltimore, Pittsburgh and LA.  As of this early morning writing, that seems to be the order of risk but things can always change.

Keep in mind, these articles and any associated videos are published early, so that you have a chance to review and set lineups.  Actual lineups likely are not out yet, so please please make sure you check lineups before lock.  Also, please ensure you check weather and potential delays.

PITCHERS

  • Shohei Ohtani - $8,500 - vs. KC - 8 O/U

    • Salary is just too low on Ohtani, it's that simple. He is coming off back to back 26+ FP performances, yet is still priced below Tyler Skubal and Sonny Gray. I don't understand it but I'll definately take it. Daily Fantasy Nerd has him as the highest projected pitcher on the slate, with a 7 strikeout O/U and only 3.25 runs projected to be scored by the Royals. KC against right handed pitching is currently ranked 21st in wRC+, 22nd in wOBA and 27th in ISO. It's a pretty easy matchup for Ohtani overall and one that should yield great results at his low salary.

BATTERS

  • Mike Trout - $5,900 - vs. KC - vs. Lynch (L - KC)

    • I think at this point it is safe to say Mike Trout is having a little bit of down season (3.6 WAR vs. career 9.6 WAR). Not that he still isn't producing elite numbers, he most certainly is, but he isn't quite showcasing out of this world numbers. A by a little bit down, I mean the guy has still produced FP points in 14 straight games - so it lightly on the hate. Things can change and likely will, but, his price is below $6,000 which is always an attractive area of salary for Mr. Trout. Tonight he gets a plus split matchup against Dan Lynch, the young southpaw who so far has a career 4.94 xFIP, .368 wOBA and really really really low 9.8% strikeout rate. He also allows 1.45 HR/9 to right handers with a 42% FB rate and 39% Hard Hit rate. It's an excellent plus matchup for Trout tonight to keep on keeping on.
  • Jack Suwinski - $2,200 - vs. CHC - vs. Thompson - (R - CHC)

    • The Pirates recently called up a bunch of rookies and low and behold, they have been producing and scoring a bunch of runs. Jack Suwinski isn't one of the recent call ups but has been up for the better part of the year and more importantly has been hitting and producing from the middle of the order. The last 2 nights, he has been hitting 3rd and prior to that had a 3 HR game, single handily winning a close game over the Giants. Nonetheless, the point here is that he is only $2,200, which is near bare minimum for a #3 hitter in a plus split matchup, who has been recently producing for a team scoring a bunch of runs. Thompson is another young pitcher for the Cubs who does have a few innings under his belt and at times has been good for them. However, he still doesn't show anything too crazy that you would want to fade bats against and does tend to give up the long ball. Again though, the focus here is the salary on Suwinski which offers major value.

STACKS

  • Atlanta Braves - 4.88 Earned Runs - vs. Rodon (L - SF)

    • This stack isn't for the faint of heart as Rodon has been nothing short of excellent this sesason. In fact, we have been recommending Rodon in recent starts but tonight isn't the night. Here me out and make your own judgement on this stack. First, I fully suspect Rodon will be one of the highest owned pitchers on the slate. That naturally will make the Braves one of the lowest owned stacks. Anytime you can get the Braves way underowned, regardless of the pitcher, I'm interested. Second, if you break down Rodon's starts, his best typically have come against bad teams (Pirates, A's, Marlins, Rockies, etc.) or teams where they are heavy left handed bat dependent (Dodgers, Phillies, etc.) - which he can obviously neutralize. However, teams with good / power right handed bats, have had a chance to get after him. Specifically, the Cardinals who put up 8 runs earlier this seaso - by far his worst start. If there is any other team that can do that, it has to be the Braves with their 3rd ranked wRC+, 2nd ranked wOBA and 1st ranked (by a lot) ISO. It's not a perfect play or a perfect matchup but it is an edge that we can take advantage of tonight with a Braves stack. If they can put up a crooked number, not only will that point FP on the boards for our bats, but that can wipe out a lot of players starting Rodon.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates

  • LA Angels

  • Boston Red Sox
