MLB DFS MAINSLATE BREAKDOWN MONDAY 6/20/2022
Photo Credited : NBC Sports

8-game main slate ahead of us tonight, with luckily, as it stands, very little in terms of weather risk.  There a few elite pitchers on the slate coupled with 3 games at or above 9 runs.  All in all, it should be a fun Monday night.

Weather - As mentioned, there is very little currently in the way of weather.  There have been very few slates where we have been able to say this lately, so let us enjoy it.

Keep in mind, these articles and any associated videos are published early, so that you have a chance to review and set lineups.  Actual lineups likely are not out yet, so please please make sure you check lineups before lock.  Also, please ensure you check weather and potential delays.

PITCHERS

  • Yu Darvish - $8,100 - vs. ARI - 7 O/U

    • Darvish has been pitching very well as of late, coming off 2 straight 28+ FP performances. This includes his most recent outing of 8 innings, 1 ER and 7 Ks against the Chicago Cubs. The only negative note is that his K% is low (20.5%) this season relative to his career (29.3%) and although it's hard to tell for older pitchers, I think some postive regression is likely considering he is coming off 3 straight seasons of 29% or higher. He has also pitched much better at home this season and the good news, the Diamondbacks are actually worse vs. right handers than the Cubs. For the season, the Diamondbacks are ranked 24th in wRC+, 23rd in wOBA and 7th in ISO. They also strike out the 5th most against right handed pitching. It's a second great matchup and potential start for Darvish, so let's consider him tonight for lineups.

BATTERS

  • Rafael Devers - $5,700 - vs. DET - vs. Faedo (R - DET)

    • Dever's is simply becoming one of baseball's best and most consistent hitters and quite frankly, I think is still underrated by all accounts. Tonight he is coming is as Daily Fantasy Nerd's top projected bat, with a plus matchup at home against the young right hander for Detroit, Faedo. With only 40 total MLB innings under his belt, this is Faedo's first big league season. He has generally struggled and most recently gave up 7 runs to the White Sox. With so few innings, it is tough to break down his splits, but so far he is much worse (5+ xFIP / 13% K%) against left handers. Devers on the otherhand, is the 7th best bat in baseball this season against right handers, with a 184 wRC+, .430 wOBA and .292 ISO. It is an ideal matchup for Devers tonight against the young right hander.
  • Oneil Cruz - $2,000 - vs. CHC - vs. Kilian- (R - CHC)

    • The most highly anticpiated prospect for the Pirates, Cruz, is getting called up tonight and although I have to admit this is a bit of a homer call, Cruz is incorrectly priced at $2,000. If you didn't know, that is the absolute bare minimum a player can be salaried and if he is going to hit in the middle of the Pirates lineup, I think there is great value to be had. He did get a couple of at bats with the big league team last season, so there shouldn't be too much star gazing. Plus, he also is going against a pitcher just as green as himself in Kilian who has only pitched 9 total innings for the Cubs this season and in MLB generally. It's a cheap, value play in a spot that shouldn't be too difficult for the young bat.

STACKS

  • *Boston Red Sox - 5.43 Earned Runs - vs. Faedo (R - DET)

    • It's a tough night in my opinion to pick out stacks and I may be employing a 3-3 type of strategy to get a little extra exposure. If I had to pick one stack, it is the obvious one here with the Red Sox. They are projected to score the most runs of any team on the slate and for good reason as they are up against the young right handed pitcher for Detroit, Faedo. I talked about him a bit with Devers, but generally speaking he has been very ok / average this season. He is coming off his worst start, allowing 7 earned runs against the White Sox but prior to that, basically gave up 1-2 runs per game while being limited to around 85-90 pithces. Nothing stands out as impressive yet for the young guy and prior to this season, he was actually pretty good in the minors. He doesn't seem like a guy that has much K-upside, even when looking at his minor league numbers, so that is a postive for the Red Sox bats. Boston is also a very difficult park to pitch in, especially considering over the last 30 days, the Red Sox have become one the leagues best offenses against right handed pitching. Over that time period, Boston has vastly improved their numbers, ranking 6th in wRC+ and wOBA and 14th in ISO. It's a great spot for the Red Sox tonight as a whole.
  • LA Angels

  • Toronto Blue Jays
