Another short Monday slate ahead of us tonight but we do have a couple interesting spots to cover.  A total of 5 games should be available on the main slate with possibly 2 seeing difficult weather issues.  So tread lightly should you be interested in partaking in tonight's action.

Weather wise, Cleveland and Kansas City look to have some legitimately difficult rain conditions.  For now, I am staying away but make sure you pay attention closer to look, especially if there are some pitchers of interest.

DISCLAIMER - Keep in mind, these articles and any associated videos are published early, so that you have a chance to review and set lineups.  Actual lineups likely are not out yet, so please please make sure you check lineups before lock.  Also, please ensure you check weather and potential delays.

PITCHERS

  • Cristian Javier - $9,100 - v. SEA - 8 O/U

    • I simply am not interested in the top arm talent available tonight, so that leaves Cristian Javier as the highest raw projected point scoring pitcher on my short list. He is in a very solid matchup at home vs. Seattle tonight and is in a great position to get the win, with Seattle only projected 3.58 runs. His strikeout O/U sits at 6, which given the slate is relatively positive. He has pitched fairly well this season with a couple bumps but a very solid 5.1 inning, 0 earned runs and 4 Ks outing against Seattle earlier this season. During that start, he was limited to under 90 pitches but over his last several starts has been pushing the higher 90s, so we should be able to get a more extended outing if things are smooth. Javier has a career 31+% K%, so we know at times he can really rack up the strikeouts. Seattle v. right handed pitching has been solid on the season, but again, given the slate, I think Javier is the best bang for the buck.
  • Carlos Carrasco - $9,300 - @ SD - 7.5 O/U

    • Carrasco is likely the only other pitcher on my list tonight, getting a great matchup on the road against the Padres. He has pitched fairly well for the Mets this season and getting a matchup against a Padres lineup that simply hasn't been able to hit right handed pitching all season. The Padres rank 25th in WRC+, 26th in wOBA and 27th in ISO vs. righties. Naturally, this has led Vegas to project a mere 3.84 run total for the team and 5.5 K O/U for Carrasco. Nothing special, but on a slate like this we have to take what we can get. Until the Padres get back Tatis Jr. and some of their more important bats, I believe the Padres are a team you can look to take pitchers against.

BATTERS

  • Alex Bregman - $4,900 - v. SEA - v. Ray (L - SEA)

    • Alex Bregman has been nothing short of spectacular over the last couple of years when facing left handed pitching. In fact, he ranks 2nd in MLB (behind JD Martinez) over the last 3 seasons in the split with a 252 WRC+ and .544 wOBA. His ISO doesn't lag too far behind either, ranking 4th in that same time frame at .472. This season hasn't quite lived up to those numbers yet, but I would bet he is due for some positive regression soon. Now, Robbie Ray is a great pitcher but at times can suffer from some major bad outings and is most recently coming off of a rough outing in Baltimore. I'd like to take the shot here with Bregman, one of the leagues best hitters vs. left handers, in a matchup vs. a pitcher that can be violatile at times.
  • Jared Walsh - $3,600 - v. BOS - v. Wacha (R - BOS)

    • Jared Walsh has been a pleasant suprise for the Angels and honestly has been one of their most consistent bats recently. His price is fairly affordable and you are also getting him in a split advantage here v. Wacha. For the season, Walsh ranks 6th in MLB (min. 150 PA) vs. righties with a 166 WRC+ and 8th in wOBA at .415. He continues to hit in the middle of the Angels order which of course surrounds him with some elite talented bats. On a slate like tonight, Walsh is very attractive at only $3,600 against a mediocre at best pitcher in Wacha.
  • Jose Ramirez

  • Rafael Devers

  • Jose Altuve

STACKS

  • *LA Angels - 4.62 Runs Projected - v. Wacha (R - BOS) *
    • On a shortened slate threatened by weather, the LA Angels are standing out to me as a great stack. I already mentioned Jared Walsh but as a whole, I think the Angels are in a great spot against Wacha. Wacha has 1 start against the Angels earlier this season, where he did pitch fairly well but I would consider that more of an outlier than anything. Wacha's ERA on the season is 2.43, which is insane considering it sat at 5.05 in 2021 and 6.62 in 2020. Moreoever, this seasons ERA doesn't match his 4.39 xFIP and 4.69 SIERA, which to me indicates regression is looming. Now, the Angels, after a hot start, have lost 11 in a row, so we aren't dealing with a hot offense right now but I do believe Trout, Ohtani and Walsh can find a way to get going here soon. Again, short slate that could get even shorter with weather, you are going to have to take some chances.
